I'm running a 180 degree thermostat (new) and with the winter temps that have gripped us here in the NE, while on the highway the temp barely makes it to 160-165 degrees. At first I thought a 195 thermostat would be the answer, but thinking again, if the cooling air at highway speeds cools so much not allowing it to come up to proper temps, a higher thermostat wouldn't resolve this. Am I correct in this? I'm running an electric fan.... Around town, engine temp runs around 180......
I really noticed a big drop in temps after replacing the heater core with a new one........

Crow, gotta go with dparker on this one. Put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. This will block off a lot of that cold air that's keepin' the temps down.

cardboard will work, i used to do that in my Camaro when i lived in NY, just don't forget to remove it before wheeling, and when Spring comes, you don't wanna overheat...
