1980 brat 4 speed manual tranny

help i can pick up a brat for 500, motor runs perfect, drives good, interior like new, exterior a little rough a ding here and there no major rust anywhere, only problem there is no reverse, any ideas? would this be a easy fix for a 500 dollar truck, the owner says its not the tranny but a linkage or something, any help is appreciated, im suppose to let him know if i want it either tommorrow or tuesday

man my uncle had a brat and it was one of the best subaru's he said he'd ever owned. I always liked the brat and thought it would be a good 2.5 sti motor swap
