Hi all, it doesn't look like this forum is used to much but i hope to still get some replys. As i stated in a previous post I am interested in the possible purchase of an early 80's Subaru wagon or Brat. I would plan on lifting it to fit 205/70R14 tires or larger (like 27x805R14) on it as many others seem to do. However i have not read much about diff ratios, or LSD on these vehicles. For starts what are the standard diff ratios on these vehicles and is it possible to switch them out to make up for the loss in power do to the larger tire, or do you just deal with it. And second do any of these have LSD and if not is there any aftermarket or do it yourself ways to install one front and rear for better traction all around. Thanks any help would be appreciated.

Howdy,
Well I can't get a url link to work, but do a google search or something for USMB.....ultimate subaru message board. Those folks can answer your questions, I'm sure.
Ya, what javajeeper said, the Brat's are way cool. I have a pic of one w/ 31" swampers on it. I wish I could get a decent one(too much rust).
I had an 81 wagon which was a great rig and if its busted you could sleep in the back. The owners manual had the axles ratios in them but I don't think there were options on different axle ratios. Canuck's had a Turbo GL wagon which probable had different axle ratios and obviously had more power for those HUGE tires.
I know that later model legacy's(92+) and imprezas have LSD's but I don't think any older rigs do.
I would go for a wagon, the suspention mounting design makes it way easier to lift them compared to a brat.
there alot of them around here with 3-6" of lift and 32" tires. welding the rear diff is fairly common too.
My 80 wagon is currently awaiting its lift project, I have a set of 32" buckshot mudders on 15' aluminum pugeot wheels for it.
