Polaris Ranger 4x4 vs Ranger 6x6

I am trying to decide between buying a ranger 4x4 or a 6x6. I see for 05 the 4x4 has 11" of ground clearance to the 6x6s 6". Does the extra set of wheels on the 6X6 make up for the smaller ground clearance? I'm going to be using the vehicle for hauling trees, limbs and whatever up a long forested hill. Any insights will be appreciated.

Sure it doesn't have the same clearance, but the payload is 1400 lbs. or so and the diesel is an insane pulling machine. This thing does lack for the true 4x4 enthusiast, but for skidding logs and pulling weight that thing is the strongest puller out.

Look at ATV iluustrated a few months back and they've got a shootout. They named the Mule Diesel far above anything else as a <font color="red"> WORK HORSE </font> .

If you intend to go down the hill with any load at all or when it is slick, think seriously about something other than a Polaris 4X4. They have an automatic four wheel drive that will not lock up going down hill, and there is no way to lock the thing. So the rear end will slide around and you will swap ends on slick stuff. The breaks do not even compensate, as the hand brake locks both ends and you just swing sideways and roll.

The 6X6 does the same thing, but at least it has the rear 4 wheels locked so it only pile drives the front end going down hill when it is wet or slick.
