Premiere Motorsports Group Runs Circles Around The Competition
At Perris Automotive Speedway
When the Traxxas Off Road Championship Series (TORC) came to Perris California for the second to last weekend of racing for the 2009 season, it was clear to all competitors, that this was the time to step it up. The championship points battle is winding down and the margin of victory is wearing thin. All the top teams arrived focused on gaining valuable points and set up for a victorious weekend. From this point, the drivers would witness the division leaders increased points spread or close in on the top positions.
The Pro Light class has been exceptionally heated all season with wins distributed throughout the top drivers. The point’s battle shows Jeff Kincaid the class leader, with a substantial margin over Chad Hord, Marty Hart, Chris Brandt and Casy Curie. This fierce 5 way battle spilled out onto the track Friday night, where Perris Auto Speedway converted its oval into a tight and technical high flying off road short course.
Chris Brandt, the Pro Light specialist for Rockstar Hart and Huntington Premiere Motorsports Group, started up in the second row. The first half of the race consisted of lead changes with Hart, Hord, and Curie while Kincaid battled his way through the back of the field. Brandt positioned the #82 Lucas Oil Hart and Huntington Toyota Pro Light into 3rd and ready to make the move into 1st when Chad Hord makes contact and spun out Chris with only a lap and half to go. Brandt later described the incident and reverse 360 maneuver that salvaged his race, “I knew it was happening. I knew I was going around, and I prepared for a quick recovery. I had it in reverse before I was stopped and got it turned forwards.” Without skipping a beat or even loosing position, Chris went on to pass Hord and take his first 1st place win and 5th podium of the 2009 season.
Premiere Motorsports Group’s Light Buggy driver, John Fitzgerald, has gone on a complete terror this season, winning 7 of his last 8 events and after the TORC Races this weekend, makes it 5 straight wins in a row. Dominating the 1600 Buggy class, “Fitz” and the #314 Lucas Oil Hart and Huntington buggy has the division pretty well figured out. “We have an easy game plan this weekend. Outlast the competition. Everyone is going out and breaking. If I just go out and run a consistent pace, than I will come out on top. John continued the class supremacy and went on to take the win in both rounds. Speaking with Fitzgerald after the weekends events, John shared, “We are cleaning the car up, going back to Iowa, and preparing for the next rounds of Lucas Oil Off Road out in Arizona.” As the crew was tearing down the car and prepping the motor for a rebuild, John looked further down the road, “I hope to step up my program next year. Maybe a Pro Light sounds about right.”
Enduring the fierce schedule of back to back racing; Brandt, Fitzgerald and the rest of the Rockstar Hart and Huntington Premiere Motorsports Group will again re-converge in Surprise Arizona for yet another action packed weekend of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Speed World has been transformed into a state of the art and highly technical short course that provides the fans with great views of all the action. During the last visit, SpeedWorld Off Road Park enjoyed sold out crowds and has recently made preparations to accommodate as many as 15,000 fans for the next rounds taking place on October 17-18.
