Default Fixed somehow?!?!

I completley took the motor apart last night and cleaned the head, the piston and the ports, exhaust manifold, carb., everything possible. And this morning I put it all back together and started it, and it actually started! But then started coughing out smoke, so I adjusted the carb and that did not help so I pegged the throttle for about 45sec and it quit smoking and is running fine.(I did this all up on jack stands). Does and odyssey have reeds??? I took off the carb and the hose from the engine to the carb and there are no reeds like someone said there were? Could some one explain what reeds do? They are valves I know but if the engine is ported does it need valves??

Someone that is a little smarter than me please help me.

Thanks Daniel
