Default July 04, 2000 O\'Fallon, Missouri

Top Mud Challenge 2000 is scheduled for July 4th, 2000 in O'Fallon, Missouri. The race will be sanctioned by my group - Gateway Unlimted Mud Bog Organization. I've just contracted with my local club - the Mid-Missouri Off-Roaders - to work the event. This will not only give me a top-notch crew & equipment with which to work, but will also surely boost participation in the event. Only about 5 or 6 MMOR members took part in Top Mud Challenge 1999, but there are about 20 decent to fabulous competition machines in the club. Check my web page for rules & (eventually) directions to the event. There's also a link on my web page to "St. Charles city info". St. Charles is very close to O'Fallon, so you might want to check that link for hotel/motel/restaurant info. Tech & registration will be from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the race starting at noon.

LET'S GO RACIN'!!!!

I'm looking forward to it. Should be nice and hot! I promise we'll come down at least once this year. Maybe you could recommend a campground as it gets closer. I'm getting itchy to get back in the Mouse already...

Yeah, I'll have to see about finding some camping spots. "Patches" just camped at the raceway in St. Charles last year, but I don't know if that'll be an option in O'Fallon. The guy who ram-rod's the Sullivan mud drags was at our club meeting Sunday night, but no word yet on a date. I'll let you know if we get that one set up. This guy has a new rail & he took it out to that big race in Nevada over the holidays, but I hear he broke something. He's been running a blower car for a year or two, but he has a new rear-engine chassis. Guess we'll see how it does if it ever holds up for an event.

This is a mud bog AND drag. Competition all the way, but we have 11 classes. So, just about anyone could be relatively competitive somewhere in the program. I'll send the rules to your e-mail address, but you can get more details off my web page (the link is below my signature). 4Wheel & Off-Road was at one of my events last year (in fact, if you look at Matt Heady's flamed Ford in the 03/2000 issue, those pics came from my event), and John Cappa called a few weeks ago to get some final info for the article he's doing on that race. I sort of expect to see the article in the April, May, or June issue.

The bog/drag format works like this. Six of the classes are going to run on a shallow "Fast Track" that's only inches deep. They'll only get credit for their run if they complete it in bounds. All of the classes allowing cut tires will be on this "Fast Track" as will a couple of classes for less-modified machines. "Mudracer" runs the "Street Stock" class with "Mighty Mouse".

The other five classes run the "Pit". There are 3 "street" classes of various modifications, one we call "Outlaw Stock" and a tractor tire class (Altered) that will run the "Pit". The "Pit" is going to be 2-3 feet deep & anyone that doesn't make it through will be measured for distance to get credit for the run. The longest distance in the class is the winner - best time will break a tie for distance. My truck (Mudslide) runs in the 38.0" "Hot Street" class.

If you need any more info, just let me know. I'll go ahead & send you the rules, but you can also see them on my page. Last year, we had racers from Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Colorado, Texas, and Indiana at our events in St. Charles. Got some folks from Oklahoma, Kansas, Kentucky, Iowa - and now Florida - inquiring about this year. So, we could have a really nice showing of top machines.

I saw that flamed F@@D. Pretty impressive truck, he just chose the wrong brand . Seems like I had seen the truck at one of the Jambos. The article didn't say where the owner/truck was from, but I guess it was from near you?

Maybe some of the IL boys' trucks will show up in the article.

Yeah, I think he got "best engineered" at one of the Jambo's. He's about 40 minutes from me. That guy has ALWAYS had big F**d's & they've always run hard. He's kind of the local C6 guru. His truck is one of those that really doesn't fit in anywhere in competition being pretty much a rail, but entirely too heavy to be as fast as the motor would indicate. In fact, I think he only beat one guy in his class at St. Charles (he was in the "Modified" rail class). But, it was built more as a show/play truck than a dedicated racer. Supposedly, it really jumps too!

John Cappa was at the first St. Charles event & that's the one that had more of the guys you know. Only one missing that was at the second one was "Patches". So yeah, maybe some of those guys will get their pic in the article. I really like the looks of Rusty Foster's "Double Trouble", but of course the sentimental favorite is "Life of Reily" for obvious (mouse) reasons!

Reilly's a real good guy, he cuts a MEAN r/t and will surprise ya with that mouse! Rusty has a mean Chevy too. I hope Rusty can get some races going again. He used to have several a year near Decatur. Side-by-side double elims of course. That's where I first tried it and got hooked instantly.
