Default Unimog Campers are kinda cool

I saw a Unimog, the best I can describe it was that it looked like a mobile home with big tires. An older Swiss or Austrian couple had it parked by the Race Track near Death Valley. They were pretty cool, just enjoying the desert like we were. They were thinking about going to the hot springs in Saline Valley via Lippencott mine road. The Unimog looked really tippy, but they coulda probably have done it. Helluva way to enjoy retirement :^)

No, I don't believe I saw that in fourwheeler mag. I am jonesing for a similar desert setup. This guy across the street from me has a Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel. Says it gets 20 mpg. I think a Quad cab, longbed, with a pop-up camper would be awesome. Also a trailer to carry bikes or flat tow a Toy or jeep. I think the Unimog would be a little much to drive long streches on the highway. Especially in California if it couldn't do at least 65.

You may have seen these two.

My parents encountered them in Baja last year.

I don't think those folks are the two I was met. I don't remember the Uni being painted like that, and it had some agressive tires. But all that could have changed. Their website has a problem with the links so I couldn't surf it..
