sorry sandman - hes partially right - I dont like people who come in with no prior posts saying 'help me do my homework'...and dont fill out a profile, etc. As stated ( and demonstrated?) I'll gladly give any info I've got that doesnt actually do the assignement for him, but to do that, I like to know what the assignement is, and who I'm talking to..

Yah - I'm outspoken....I know, and admit that: I sleep with a clear conscience at night and everything.

That's how I am as well wanderer... I *will* try to *help* people out but I absolutely refuse to do somebody elses work for them.

I like to know all the facts before suggesting things as well including the entire rules of the assignment (see above) so I don't do too much for them, etc.

I typically harass people to fill out their profiles, at least a little bit with general information about them and some detailed info about what they want/need, etc...

So I'd not consider that too harsh considering the facts...

Wow, you guys must get a lot of college undergrads coming in here and asking questions about car design... Don't take me (and yourselves) so seriously. I'm primarily doing this to have fun, and I don't know why you guys aren't too. To satisfy the naysayers, I've filled out my profile, and if you look at my thread in the Toyota truck forum, I've supplied the professor and a breif description of the course. If you'd like, i can even copy the assignment off my syllabus, if there are any more doubts. You're not doing my work- in fact I have spec sheets prepared with both monocoque and body on frame constructions, so it's not exactly like I'm conniving you into doing my work. I'm just trying to decide on which one to go with, and which one is most logical. As I said in the other forum, my major is paleontology- not engineering. While I know a lot about cars, I don't have the specific knowledge you do about the esoteric details of car engineering, and that's why I asked. Frankly, if I had known the amount of crap I'd get, i wouldn't have asked at all. It's not like you're lawyers giving out free legal advice- I'm just asking your opinion, and you can give it to me or not. I understand your concerns, but politely asking me would have been a lot better than immediately raising your hackles and torqueing off.

If you'd like to email you the assignment, I'd be happy to do that too- I can attach it as a word file

Hey Calvin. I myself would go ith Body On Frame construction. I am in the military and have seen a few different designs in use. The B-O-F design allows for a lot of variances in setups. You could just use different frame lengths to accomodate different configurations like a long bed, extra axle(like the new LMTV the army uses, one rear is 2.5 ton 2 rears in 5 ton), different utility beds, shelters, weapons sysytems, etc. And so many different or new systems come out that it is easier to make small adjustments to a vehicle already in use than to design a new one.
