Default t-case question

Can anyone explain the difference between the Kia t case and a "normal" one, like out of a Suzuki Samurai? I've noticed that in 4 hi, when I'm in the sand in my 2001 Sportage, it just stops spinning...the motor revs, but the tires don't move. To me, that's just plain weird...
Any help?

I guess you have an auto tranny. The engine probably doesnt have enough power to push the truck through the sand, so the engine just revs up to the tranny's stall speed. Same thing if you would step on the gas and brake at hte same time. Try putting it in 4 low, that will give you more power to spin the wheels. If not, your tranny is slipping real bad. Hope this helps.

i'm thinking that's driver inexperience. i have blown over sand dunes ever since i bought my Sportage in 96, albeit, not that often as i'm more fond of the rocks, but it does happen occasionally and i have only been stuck in sand once, at the beach, parked, in 2wd, tried to engage 4, but couldn't get any forward movement for the auto centrifugal hubs to engage, so, when i got home, bought the manual hubs. little things can fix big issues easily. no company makes a perfect 4x4 right off the shelf, nobody.
