I have just purchased a 97 wrangler and am wanting to put 3" lifts and larger mud tires. People are telling me I'm asking for trouble that

Default Re: Lifts or not?

Your message says three inch LIFTS. Are you talking 3" lifting blocks, a 3" shackle lift, 3" body lift, a 3" suspension lift or something in a leather pump. There are a ton of proven lift kits for your vehicle in every 4x4 magazine and most are great. The increased altitude does make certain things wear out pre-maturely and does cause more stress in certain areas. However, the words "all kinds" and "frequent" I don't agree with. If you are putting in a 3" lift kit and large mud tires it sounds as if your going to do some off roading so you'll be breaking, bending, smashing and tearing all kinds of stuff. Fixing the light extra wear this lift will cause is mild in comparison to the other things that can happen off-road. Soon you'll be caught up in maddness of modifying, modifying , modifying, unless your already familiar with it. If your talking leather pumps I wouldn't recommend driving with them.
