I have a problem with mine too. When I finish a turn the blinker doesn't turn off like it should. Do I need a new switch or do I have any options?

Paul, I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to electrical problems. Can't help you with that one. Spence

I was able to purchase a new switch from Napa. It is a common GM product (If I remember right). If you go this route, be sure to take the old one along to match it to pictures for ordering purposes. My new one works great and turns itself off when returning the wheel to center.

How do you get it out? I'm doing the samething right now.
The cable goes down inside the column, it feels like it's being held tight. It goes through a hole way too small to pass either the connector or the switch.
There's an access hole with a plate at the bottom/side of the column where the wires go through, but I don't know how to release it. Anybody know?

My present switch is cracked, it doesn't make good connection. I couldn't get it out today, so I JB Welded it. Don't know if it's going to work. I'd rather replace it. The local Jeep dealer said he could have it in one day - $85.00.

I had to pull the steering wheel to get at it when I had problems a few years ago. You will need a steering wheel puller or you will have to fabricate one. First remove the horn button, there is a small slot at the bottom of the round "Jeep" emblem to pry it out. Then remove the horn switch, three screws I think. Watch out for all the springy parts. Next remove the large nut that holds on the steering wheel. For a puller I fabricated a unit that screws into the two 1/4-20 holes in the steering wheel "plate"? and had a large fine thread bolt that pushed on the threaded steering shaft. This will pull the steering wheel off the splines and presto! there is the turn signal switch.

Not a problem pulling the wheel and getting to the switch, but taking the switch out is something else.
The wires on it are rivited on to the switch, so they don't disconnect at the top.
The wires dissapear through a small hole in the column and run inside it, so it can't go down. The harness comes out at the bottom of the column through a hole with a plate or plug in it. I tried pulling on the plate to no avail.
The connector on the bottom end looks too big to fit through the hole anyway, so it can't go up.
If the assembly can't come out the top, and it can't come out the bottom, and there is no way it can go out the side, then --- How?

I fixed it anyway without taking it out. The plastic was cracked, so I used a dab of JB Weld on it. Works OK for now, but someday it will have to come out. How? I'm sure there is a little secret I'm missing - the book just says "remove it."
Thanks, Rich

I had the entire steering column apart back then but the ravages of time prevent me from remembering how that thing came out of there.......

I'll look at it tomorrow and try to figure it out again.

I just tore apart my steering column to replace the the lower bearing and decided to freshen it up too. The trick to removing the turn signal harness is to undo the spade connecters at the block harness ( mark where they go) and pull the wires out the top of the column. Check the junkyards for old Wagoneers and trucks of the same era, they have the same switch, if you want to go the used route.
