I ended up buying a $7 part (TH400 tranny mount for GM truck) using a part number found elsewhere on this forum. I put it together like it came from the factory but made sure the torque stud actually does something by shimming it with washers. Hopefully, with my stock 258 engine and no plans for extreme off-roading, it'll hold up. I used to have an '85 Toyota 4X4 that I beat on relentlessly and I doubt I'll subject this jeep to that kind of abuse.

THanks again for the pics--they really helped me understand the problem. Now my transfer case actually works. Now on to dropping the gas tank--this thing may have been sitting for years.
