Default is the dot 5 brake fluid i am using to good?

i am using dot 5 in my brake system & seem to have a small issue with my brakes. i step on the brakes & they work very well except the switch does not engage unless you really step hard on the peddle but if you do that they lock up & i slide a little. i have power brakes & they seem to work to good. the switch on the master cylinder seems to work the lights come ion but to late. do you think the switch is bad? any help is appreciated.

The DOT 5 fluid is definitely not a factor. Pressure is pressure regardless of the medium involved. I think your suspicion of the switch itself is very valid.
