| | 1967 Jeepster TH400 Transmission ID
Hello
I have a 67 Jeepster, Buick Engine 231 which I have rebuilt and replaced the Original engine , using the original adapter ring, and a TH400 transmission, with the balance of the Jeepster being pretty much stock, I have noticed that the transmission is starting to make some noise, so I am considering trying to find a second tranny to rebuild, but have been unable to locate the tranny detail information so that I might get on out of wrecking yard local. The Tag on the Tranny list the following information BJ-65-40706, SN 344, I have been unable to identify what GM transmission this is or what the numbers of the code indicates.
Is it a special built only for Jeepsters? or is it a off the shelf from a early model GM vehicle.
If you have any information about the about Transmission tag, that you could make available or tell me where I can go on the web to track down a the information.
Thanks TC

It's an early 60's Buick/Olds/Cadillac, aka "round top" cased TH-400, not to be confused with the later, (mid to late 60's), model Buick/Olds/Pontiac, aka "twin ears" cased TH-400 that would fit your engine without the adapter ring. These "round tops" were designed for 4WD with shorter output shaft and no tail housing, so even though you could find one from an early GM car, it would have the wrong output to work with your transfer case. Jeep used these 4WD TH-400's from '66-'73 in Jeepsters and Commandos and from '66-'72 in Wagoneers and J trucks, should you desire a spare to rebuild.
