| | Will an aftermarket 1972 CJ tie rod fit my 72 Commando?
I couldn't find in the search if the D30 is EXACTLY the same, so I ask you.
I want to by an off the shelf Heavy Duty tie rod + ends to go with my custom drag link on the diesel commando. Will it work if I ask for a 72 CJ setup?
Thanks

Boy, I don't think so but not sure what your rig is?
I've bent mine up a couple times and IF I remember right the CJ's were too short, and the Waggies were too long ......... and I used one out of a Cherokee (not quite perfect but worked).
I would want to look at it with a tape measure.
next time I'm going to up grade (stock stuff from the salvage yard just bends too easy)

From a steering system standpoint my Commando is the same as stock (well was)
I'm switching to a late 70s scout II steering box that sits up on the frame and is forward throw so that I can have a safe steering system, the original box had to a have a two-piece steering shaft when I put the diesel in to clearance an engine mount, with 4 total u-joints and it was particularly unsafe on the highway.
The new location is going to require a longer drag link, but the tie rod will remain the same so I was hoping to find an easy replacement.

Might try partsmike.com Real good to work with.

After some internet sleuthing, I found out the 72-81 CJ tie rod TUBE is 40.5", the same as I measured on my Commando. Later CJ years are longer, something like 43.75".
I don't know what the comparison is for the drag link, but that's not applicable for my current engineering (because of the scout box) so I didn't try too hard to find it.
