| | Jeepster "convertible" listed on Ebay
Hi guys,
Haven't been on for a while, but still checking Jeepster listings on Ebay and still have my 68 true convertible.
There is a new listing on Ebay for a convertible. I guess this is expected fallout from the Barrett-Jackson Jeepster sale at an outrageous price, but this listing is obviously a scam attempting to sell an 8705 as an 8701. I don't like it because this kind of activity devalues my Jeepster.
The Jeepster has a convertible top and the rear deck that is correct for a true convertible, but it's just cosmetic. Check for yourself, but here are a few things that are wrong:
- Hood says Jeepster Commando, not Jeepster.
- No continental kit on the rear bumper.
- No OEM original side molding...it's cheap stick-on from Pep Boys.
- Top of windshield does not have convertible header. It's obviously just a stack of rubber and the top catches are in the wrong place.
- Appears to be missing the rear side quarter windows.
- Doesn't show side windows, but most likely they are rounded, not squared.
- Wheel wells have been cut, vehicle was probably built as a rock crawler at some point.
- Jeepster has been painted as a two tone, but the division between top and bottom is wrong.
From the paint scheme and fake molding and listing as a Jeepster Commando, this is obviously an intentional fraud. The price is up to $4k, so there are suckers out there. Just want to make sure that none of my Jeepster friends are being sucked into the scam.

I think if you e-mailed the seller you would find out it is in fact an 8702, which would explain the Jeepster Commando on the hood, with an 8701 deck lid. I suspect the previous owner liked the look of the 8701 but didn't want to spend the cash to acquire the correct trim and rear bumper or could not find it. Your guess is as good as anybodies about what's up with the header, maybe the original was toast.
The 8702 is also a "true" convertible.

It could be an 8702 with a rear deck and that would explain the hood. It's hard to see in the pictures, but it doesn't look like it has the rear quarter windows, just the rubber cover, and none of the pictures show the windows up, so you can't see if it has convertible windows. The top windshield frame is definitely wrong and the catches are mounted too low on the frame. Maybe it rolled and the wrong windshield was the only one available???
The convertible attachment bolts look like they were added, not the factory originals. The entire top is slightly off angle, probably in an attempt to make it fit the wrong windshield. My guess is that it's an 8705, but you'd need better photos to be sure.
Whether it's an 8702 or an 8705, it has intentionally been painted to look like an 8701 and I'd consider it intentional misrepresentation to post it with no explanation. The lister has zero feedback and the serial number is left off of the listing. I would be extremely cautious with this Jeepster unless more information is added to the listing. Whatever it is, it's not worth the current bid with the wrong windshield and cut wheel wells.

Note zero feedback and zero activity on a new Ebay account and a phony sounding deceased previous owner/garaged for several years/recently "restored"/engine "tuned" story. The bid is up to $7k and hasn't met the reserve yet. Someone is going to be extremely disappointed when they "win".
Hopefully potential owners will be smart enough to find this forum which is the long time source of EXPERT information on Jeepsters. I don't like seeing people scammed and I don't like it being done with a Jeepster.

he finally gave them to me. 8705f
He said it had square front windows and 1/4 windows as well. Looks like someone changed tags or all kinds of stuff.
