Default Automatic tranny's swap out

I have a 72 bull nose and I would like to get rid of the original 3-speed standard ..... I have not found any turbo 400 for my jeep in my area of Texas but I heard that some of the mopar tranny's will bolt up .... Is it the torque flite 727 or the tf 999 that suppose to bolt up ..... It seems easier to find a TF tranny than a turbo 400 .... I think all I would need is an adapter for the dana 20 and the tranny will bolt up and any misc. for the shift linkage and would I need to change the drive shaft length .... is there anything else I would need for the tranny swap ..... thanks old geezer

The full size jeeps started running 727's in the mid or late 70's. I have a t400 out of my jeepster but im in spokane wadhington so unless your planning on coming this way that would be your best bet. Also Novak Jeep Conversions - Home has is a greta source of information on transmissions and transfercases. they would also know what you would need to do to run a d20 behind one.

ok i can check on shipping. you just want the transmission? to use a D20 i do believe you will need the transfercase that came with it. the automatic splines were a higher count. the transmission was running great when i blew my motor but it would never hurt to rebuild it while its out. also mine was a AMC round top with the factory adapter to the dauntles V6 so the torque converter taller feet where it bolts to the ring gear. need one of those?

Hey Walt, let me check with this place down the street from me called Mail Box Express and see what they say .... I need your zip code to get an idea .... and I did send you an email Saturday ..... I would assume I will need everything you have that will help me bolt that tranny into my bullnose like the shifter and linkage etc. but I would not need the console ....... and I'll give Novak a call and ask to see what adapter I'll need and how much .... hey by the way about how many miles would you say your tranny has on it before you parked it , you think ? just wondering if you were running your jeep then I would assume it was shifting ok .... shoot me an email ... Thanks Old Geezer Richard
