Default Collateral Damage

LET ME START WITH A PROJECT OUTLINE: CHEAP but TRAIL READY with OFF THE SHELF, JUNKYARD, OR FABBED PARTS. v6, stock steelies & jeep hub caps, future sm420.

so, the SOA with scout d44s went pretty well. outboarded, pointed diff, adjusted caster, custom high steer(version 1)....i like it!

now i'm left with a bunch of loose ends. crap. i wanna drive it!

PROBLEM 1: i stole a cv driveline out of an 89 waggy. i need to shorten it a bit, but the problem is- the 1st u-joint in the cv that buttons to the t case is the large 3 3/16? and the t case yoke is 2 1/2".

yoke off the waggy has way too many splines. i thought of grinding the little cap retension tangs off the yoke, then plugging and retapping the bolt holes at the waggy width.

i've heard people say, "just switch the yoke". well, what year has a 10 spline/big u-joint? I'M NOT PAYING $60 FOR ONE AT AN OVERPRICED 4X SHOP.

PROBLEM 2: i haven't got a clue what has been changed out. the PO was a serious tinkerer, but he died a while before i bought the jeepster. can someone direct me to a parts identification thread/post/site? (i know i need to get a jeep bible)

MORE PROBLEMS LATER....

thanks gurus, kevin

Default oh yeah

i forgot. the stock steelies i have all mounted up are apparently not compatible with the scout front calipers. flip.

i started grinding on the calipers, but it's getting out of hand. i don't really want 1/4" spacers under the wheels. i hate unnecessary parts.

so, how do i identify IH vs. old jeep wheels?

kevin

$60 doesn't sound so overpriced when you consider your available options. $60 may be a heck of a lot cheaper in the long run than making some creative modifications that may ultimately fail or create other problems for you.
