Unhappy What have I got, distributor Q's.

Hey all. Got a question about distributor's & caps. I've got a '69 with what I'm assuming is a 225 odd fire. I don't know what kind of distorbutor it has but its got "pointless" ignition. The "points" in the center of the dist looks like a 6 sided nut. The only number I can see on the side of the dist is on the front & reads "1110 376 3G22" I think. Its pretty hard to see due to oxidation.
The rotor looks like a flat plate that's screwed down on 2 sides.
The cap is defininately even-fire, 6 evenly spaced posts. The window is on the #1 post.
The engine runs "ok". I couldn't find anywhere that told me what the correct advance for the spark should be, so I adjusted it to max vacuum off the intake at idle. The motor never wanted to run higher than 3k & the power band seems to be between 2k & 2.5k.
Shouldn't this motor rev higher than that? I know that its 40yrs old but c'mon.
Do I have the correct set-up? "I" don't think so. I think I'm in need of an odd-fire dist cap but have no idea what part to get or where. The guys behind the parts counter look at me with puzzlement when they find out what I've got.
On a complete side note does anyone know what the part number is for the rochester 2 jet. Mine decided that it didn't need it anymore when the last person re-bult it.
Thanks again as there is just too much good stuff in this forum.
Jeesters forever!!

First you need to make sure it's odd-fire. Find the serial number on the block, post it here - someone will be able to tell if it's odd or even by the numbers.

Secondly - sounds like you have an even fire distributor in it - will run in an odd-fire, but with a gross lack of power.

Maybe someone can post from your number what it is. A picture of the inside will help identify what kind of ignition you have.

Then once the distributor matches the engine, then time to get the right cap.

One step at a time.

The engine determines if odd or even fire.
The distributor itself has to match.
Then the cap and rotor have to match.

Is it a pointless ingintion or an HEI?

If it's an HEI here's a way to identify the correct type.

Being a few years old ??? one never can be sure it's an odd-fire block. It's best to verify that first before working on the distributor - no sense getting the wrong one perfect.

69 was an odd fire 225 - but --?

Flat looking rotor - Pertronics? That's why a picture would really help.

took a while to uncover the number from under all the muck, but the block casting number is 1381823. there is also a #5 after it & a sidways M.
The intake has 1S78704-E cast into it... Does the E stand for Even fire?
I've read posts that even fire intakes, exhaust manifolds & distributors do fit on odd fire engines but, do not run properly &/or, as previously stated not at full power.
I just changed computers & havent set up the picture thingy yet. I know sometimes you just need to see it, just like the "Motivation Please" thread.
The distributor is pointless, I have had to adjust those (first car, 1965 AMC Rambler)
Thanks again. I hope I have given enough info.
I eventually want to yank it out, give her a bath, fix her up pretty & put her back in. I really love it's character & I want to keep her as long as she'll have me... ooh & the wife too, she's the one that bought it for me!

doesnt sound like its an HEI sounds like it would just be a stock distributer with a stock cap. mine looked the eway it was before i installed an HEI unit. definatly want to make sure its a odd fire first tho. its really common for people to swap in even fires

I found on the "early cj5" website an engine number close to mine but was one number off. Does anyone know where to go to decode the engine numbers from the 225's? I've tried all over to no avail.

If the timing cover has not been swapped out:
225's timing mark were part of the cover
231's timing mark was a bolt on part that is attached to the cover.
