Default Transmission Question -71 Commando

I have a 71 Commando, 225 V6. It has a 3-spd manual transmission. Everything seems to work and run okay, but the transmission is low on fluid. I'm still waiting on my manual reprint to come in the mail, so I can't look up what the manufacturer specs say to put in it. Does anyone know what it says to put in? Someone in an earlier post said that he used 75w-90, is that right?

thanks
josh

80w-90w will work too. Manual says 90w in summer and 80w in winter

Here is the text from Novak Adapters regarding oil weight used in a T14 transmission and a Dana 20 TC...
When filling your T14 with gear oil, we recommend that you select a conventional mineral oil or a para-synthetic in lieu of a full synthetic oil. Properly assembled manual gearboxes do not have the thermal strains seen by combustion engines or hypoid gears. Synthetic fluid in these gearboxes, while not harmful, is probably an economic waste.

Hypoid gear oil is sulphurized higher than transmission oil and can be mildly corrosive to the non-ferrous alloys used for synchros, bushings and thrust washers in these transmissions.

An 80W-90, API-GL5 or MT-1 rated fluid is very good. Some claim faster shifts from using a 50W engine oil in their transmission and we do not consider this to be contraindicated.
