Default In-Cab Differences between the C101 and C104

Are there any differences in the cab as far as ergonomics or leg room between the two? I heard a rumor that the C104 had more leg room, but that goes against what I had believed. I thought that the only thing that changed was the front end, and PS.

Learn me.

I recently combined the best of both worlds. Put a 71 body on a 72 frame/engine/tranny.

The added length is all in the front end.

All the body mounting points from the firewall (where your feet are closest to the engine) back to where the rear mounting bolts go through the rear crossmember are identical.

I ended up adding about 7 inches to the hood and fenders to make the front end look right.

If you find youself needing more leg room, you may have to move your seat mounting points back or change the front seats altogether.

All the C104s have the steering gear forward of the front axle. The early C101s have the steering gear mounted on the frame between the firewall and front axle. My sometimes faulty memory tells me the angle of the steering columns differ between these two arrangements. The models with steering gears foward of the axle have a different rake to the column (helped crossing over the motor mount) and to accommodate this change in angle the steering column is cut up into the dash more than the early models so the steering wheel will leave room for legs between it and the seat. The C104s have a bit of the rear fenders cut away to give a bit more elbow room for rear seat passingers.
I also have a recollection of some difference in the floor pans forward of the bed such that the C104 give the rear passingers a bit more foot room.
The C104s also have different armrests, they are almost usable...
