Default Carb Question

Hey guys,

Hope everyone is ready for another Jeepster summer. I have a carb question. I typically run my 225 with the 2 barrel Rochester at 6500 ft elevation. I am getting lousy gas milage and black soot in the tail pipe. Seems to be a lot of water coming out of the pipe too. From researching the posts I think I need to to lean out the carb. Can any one tell me the right way to that, lean out the carb that is.

Thanks,
Gary

Just did mine. When engine is warmed up, you will be adjusting the two front
screws lower left and right. Turn one in until the engine just starts to run
rough...turn other in until the same occurs. back each out a quarter of a turn.
That should be it. You may need to readjust the curb idle speed.

Thanks Big Al. I'll give that a try next weekend and let you know how it runs.

Adjusting the mixture screws is a start, but you may have to rejet for that altitude.

The rejet suggestion is a good one. Thank you. I reread a bunch of the posts on carb issues at high altitude. It appears as though finding the right jets can be a problem. I think what I will do is first is set the mixture screws and see how it does. I am looking for it to burn cleaner, more horses, better gas milage. But I guess that is obvious. I may even do Rich's Propane Trick.

Regards,
Gary
