Default Closure of Sierra Navada Mountain trails.

I have heard from 2 unrelated friends that the Forest Service is holding secret meetings in order to close a vast amount of trails in the Sierra Navads. Has anyone else heard this? It does not surprise me, but I thought I would ask.

I haven't heard that but I wouldn't doubt it. The trails that I have been to in that area are some nice trails.

Currently all motorized access in all USFS land nationwide is under review. There are groups being formed of local users (both pro and anti off road) to submit recommendations to the appropriate Govt. entities for final approval.

Here appears to be a local link-
Sierra National Forest, California, Sierra National Forest Motorized Travel Management EIS

Here's a link to the Fed TMR implementation site-
Travel Management & Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program

Here's a direct quote from some of the "anti" off roaders...As you can see, we need to all get pissed and get ACTIVE...

National Forest Travel Management Rule - Controlling Off-Road Vehicle Abuse

The off road vehicle problem: Since the 1970’s, off-road vehicle (ORV - machines like ATVs, dirt bikes, and jeeps) use has been an increasing problem on our public lands. Along with the environmental degradation comes user conflicts. The noise, dust, and fumes of ORVs are inherently at odds with quiet recreationists and local private landowners. Litter is more abundant where ORVs travel. ORVs also endanger other public land users. In response to the abuses and excess of ORVs, the Forest Service put forth the Travel Management Rule (TMR). The TMR requires each National Forest to designate which roads, trails, and areas will be open to motor vehicle use. Route designations will be identified on motor vehicle use map and use off the designated system will be prohibited.

Protect Our National Forests from ORVs!

Off-road vehicles (ORVs) are a plague across our public lands causing resource damage, wildlife disturbances, and user conflicts that are way out of proportion with their use. In response, the Forest Service initiated the Travel Management Rule that will limit ORVs to designated routes. This overdue response is a step in the right direction, but more people that care about protecting forests from needless noise and destruction need to get involved!

This is the image we are given by the "Greenies". We need to be active, police ourselves, and above all, we are taxpayers and citizens- we must make our opinions heard!

With a little (very little) creative editing.

National Forest Travel Management Rule - Controlling human Abuse

The human problem: Since the 1970’s, human use has been an increasing problem on our public lands. Along with the environmental degradation comes user conflicts. The noise, dust, and fumes of humans are inherently at odds with quiet animals and surrounding land. Litter is more abundant where humans travel. Humans also endanger other public land users. In response to the abuses and excess of humans, the Forest Service put forth the Travel Management Rule (TMR). The TMR requires each National Forest to designate which roads, trails, and areas will be open to human use. Route designations will be identified on motor vehicle use map and use off the designated system will be prohibited.
