I have a '72 Commando that runs great, but is very slow to start after sitting for just a few days. It turns over fine, but it seems like it takes the fuel a long time to get to the pump. I'm thinking that there isn't any pressure pushing the fuel to the pump, but I don't know a heck of a lot about these things.
My 53 Chevy Cabover does the same thing. I suspect that an electric fuel pump would solve the situation but I drive it so little that I just give it full choke and let it turn over for a bit then she always (knock on wood) starts right up.
There was posts/discussions about this some time back. It was suspected that it is a leaky carb bowl or evaporation for some reason that could be fixed. You may want to try searching the threads for those posts. But I doubt its the fuel pump.
I wasn't saying it was the fuel pump, I was saying an electric fuel pump would solve the problem since it doesn't depend on the engine turning over to refill the carb
