Default Finally...some more progress...

I realized that if I was ever going to make it to the coast at the end of August, I'd better get my tail in gear. I have been putting off making fenders...so I started there. Took 4 fenders, and made 2 good ones. Got the headers installed, the parking brake system in, the CJ grille with the Jeepster ears, ect...Got the dash done, too! Here's some pics. (Yes, I cleaned all the crap off of the hardtop today)

Randy

What radiator are you using? Is it a "bolt in" type? I'm using a '75 CJ grille for the 304 V-8 as well.

Hi Jim- yeah, it's a bolt-in radiator for a CJ with a 350 Chev from "Be Cool". I picked it up on EBay for under $200.00, I think they go for about $500.00 retail. I also have a "Northern" aluminum radiator from my Scrambler, it hung a little lower and hit the crossmember. ( I ended up relocating the front crossmember anyways, it was too high for either one.) I just bought a "Superior" aluminum radiator for my 53 Ford, looks like a "Be Cool" at half the price. I'm sold on aluminum radiators, the one in my Scrambler dropped cruise temp by 10 degrees. I am planning on getting a "Rad Cap" which has a sacrificial anode to eliminate corrosion due to dissimilar metals/electrolysis.

I can get you some more pics if you want, just let me know. I've really started scrambling on getting it running, I HAVE to make the beach run this year.

Here's a link to the one I used, from Summit. This is set up for a small block Chevrolet, inlet lower pass side, outlet upper drivers side.

Thumbs up

Nice work Randy and I love those slotted mags! They look like the 15x7's I am running on my Chief (got 35x12.50's on them, too). My project is a little behind schedule (too much work lately ) but I hope to have it finished by the Fall run. Keep posting pictures!

The '53 looks good. What do you have in it as far as drivetrain?

Currently the 53 runs a mild 350, powerglide, and a stock rear end. I'm planning a built 350, 700R4, and a 9". I feel a little guilty about not going with a Ford powertrain, but the current setup fits so nice and I know I can get some decent mileage and power out of my planned setup. Seems everything I own ends up with a GM powertrain...

Sounds like you have a winning combination planned. My cousin went the same route with his '40 Coupe. Though I will admit that I was kinda hoping it was flathead powered or maybe a small block Ford. I have dreams of building a flathead powered Ford of some design in the future. Sharp car you've got there.
