Also does that mean I would have to outboard the the front springs as I would rather not have to do that. | Mine is going to be a mostly street driven rig also, but when I take it out to the trail it will be towed.
If you use wheels with lots of backspacing (like Hummer H2 wheels with
5.5"BS) your flares should be fine, or do like Tim did and get the larger bushwackers.
You really need to be willing to do the outboard if your upgrading axles and going with bigger meats, it will make the rig much more stable and isn't really that much work. The stock front spring hangars on a jeepster are not suited for bigger stuff and you'll end up cracking your frame.

| | OK this is looking a little less complicated. So since i can cover the most of the tire with the flares will I have to shorten the front axle at all if i do the outboard springs? Are there kits that you use to outboard or is it different on every vehicle? Is that where people have been using wrangler springs and such?
Thank you very much for all of the patience.

2) Are there kits that you use to outboard or is it different on every vehicle?
3) Is that where people have been using wrangler springs and such? | 1) No need to narrow the axle. This really helps in the long run if you need replacement shafts.
2) Yes there are kits(BTF makes some sweet ones for early CJs) but I wouldn't go that way, you can buy nice spring and shackle hangars from Foothill Offroad and then just make a gusseted platforms from angle and flat stock, it will keep your cost way down and allow you the most freedom in positioning them on the frame.
3) Yes, the spring hangars from Foothill are for 2.5" wide springs so YJ application springs work well.
Here's the shackle hangar, they also have the spring hangars. https://catalog.foothilloffroad.com/...b91a42b9290f1c

| | Sweet! sounds good. Now how well will the Wrangler springs take the weight of the 350/465/205 combo? I know its not lite. are there better springs to use? any pictures of how the gussets should look for strength?
thank you

thank you | You wouldn't want to use stock YJ springs(way to soft), I'm using Rubicon Express 1.5" YJ SOA springs, they come in either 5 leaf (RE1444) or 6 leaf (RE1445). I've got the 1445's mostly because I'm putting a 90lbs winch up front. They have reverse wrapped eyes to keep the hieght down and are very flexy.
Given that your running a much heavier drivetrain than I am I'd use the 6 leaf version also.
Lot's of other brands out there though.

I have the 7" Warn Trail Flares. Warn makes both 6" and 7" flares, while Bushwacker only makes a 6".

| | ahh ok good information to know. with that 1.5 inch lift spring how much lift did you yield total? sounds like they could get soft if i put a bumber and winch on later.

We finished my neighbors rig 2 years ago, he has the 1444's on on the front in a CJ7/5.3L/4l60e/NP241 d60front and rear and 37's, we measured his before (with 32's)and after and got it at 8" of lift, he's real happy with the 1444's they haven't sagged at all. He's running a beefed up XJ pack in the rear.
Heavy bumper, winch, stinger, heavier drivetrain... probably a good call to get the extra leaf.

| | Sweet lookin rig (although it is a bullnose -) ok so i pretty much know how i would like to do the suspension and axles with all of the help. is there anything special you have to do to the frame to keep it from cracking? are there any pictures of one should attach the gussets or even build them? Also what years of ramchargers should I be looking for? did they come on any pickups?
Thank you all again
