Default hello, & ?\'s about clutch fork boot, & distributer

Hello everybody, I have been reading the forum for a while but this is my first time to post. I have just finished restoring my 1971 jeepster commando. I have a few questions that ya'll might be able to help me with.

What have you all done for a clutch fork boot? The opening in my bellhousing is roughly 3.5 in. x 4 inches.

I have a completely rebuilt 225 v6 that is running great
What do you all think is the best distributer for it? Has anyone used the DUI, I found one at Quadratec http://www.quadratec.com/products/55102_605.htm

I rebuilt my prestolite but I think I can do better than that.
I better quit, this is getting pretty long winded. I look forward to talking with you all, I have had 3 jeepsters and have learned a thing or two about them.

Wilson

Welcome,

The fork boot is available from a Chevy dealer - part # GM 14007355.

The stock delco distributor is better then that prestolite. I'm running a pertronix with the stock delco. Runs good.

My son has the DUI in his commando (360), he likes it, runs great, one wire hookup. It's a tight fit on the V6.

Post up a picture of your Jeepster when you have chance.

For the distributor, most around here either do the Pertronix like Lee suggested or the HEI. The HEI is basically the DUI except the stock tuning fits the 225 better than the race tuning on the DUI. You might try these links:

I just did the HEI in mine. What a difference.
I have both an NOS clutch boot and odd fire HEI for sale if you can't find them. Some of the boots were smaller ones about 2 x3.5 I don't have any of those.

Thanks for the help and advice!! I just picked up the boot and it looks like it should work, I will try installing it soon. The weather is pretty bad right now but when it clears I will get a picture posted.

Thanks again,
Wilson

I just got under the jeepster with the new boot and it is way to small to fit into the opening. The opening apears to be about 3 7/8" by 3 1/4". The boot is maybe 3.5 by 2.5 or so (too small). Is there a different one I can get or is this packaged wrong?? Any help appreciated!

Thanks,
Wilson
