Default Axles

Hello fellow Jeepster owners. Just registered to the site. Lots to read. Been busy reading about this and that. My that is a 71 Jeepster. V-6,auto, hard top. Want to lift it. Had a 69 back when I was in high school. Wish I had never sold it. So I've got this 71 now and of course I want to lift it and put some bigger tires on it. Probably not going to wheel it. I've got a CJ-7 for that. Probably not going to tow the camper with it. I've got a 89 Grand Wagoneer for that. But I want to lift it up. Fix it up. Paint it. And drive it! My question is about the axles. I've got the original set out of my 7 I want to put under the Jeepster. Dana 30, open knuckle and disc brakes. And the AMC 20 which has a loc rite in it. They are the wide trac axles. I'm not too worried about the rear fenders. Like I said, it probably won't see any hard core off roading. And if after lifting it I need to I'll just block the rear axle so the tires won't hit the fenders. ( 32 or 33's ) The one problem I see so far is that the front drive shaft had little u-joints. Can I change the front yoke to a larger size? (I have an extra dana 300 transfer case but with the adapter I'd be spending more $$$) I know I'll have to get a drive shaft made. I will more than likely use the alcan springs or the 4" lift I found on ebay. (which I know doesn't cover my year Jeepster yet but they say it is coming soon) Any comments about my plan are welcome. Thanks, Jim

Default Re: Axles

Get a one piece shaft made for the front or get one from a 72 or 73. You can get bigger yokes from many sources.
Alcan makes springs for both front and rear.
Welcome.
