Default Fuel Pump Question

Jeepster Dudes,

Hope your all having a great Jeepster summer. The wife and I have been bombing around Arizona's White Mountains in our 69 Convertible. The roads up there can be very rough. Saturday we filled up and headed down to into the Cedars. About 30 miles out I noticed I was down to a half tank. The wife said she smelled gas. So we headed back to town and noticed gas dripping. The seam around the middle of the fuel pump was leaking. Has any of you guys ever heard of that before? Any body know what caused that? Is is it common? Its not a big deal because I already pulled it and NAPA has a replacement for $33. But I am curious about the whys and hows.

Thanks for any info.

Regards
Gary

Usually a hole/rip/tear/leak in the diaphram. It Happens.

I may be the last one to give advice..esp on this board but... check your oil level.. and smell the dip stick.. the danger is that the diaphram rupture allows gas into the crankcase.. BOOOM..

Mmmmmmmmmmm... So if there is gas in the crank case, how do I get it out of there?

Thanks,
Gary

Drain the oil out.. refill with cheap oil... stand back and start up.. let run for a minute till it circulates and refill and change the filter.. IMHO.. I am sure the board will have a opinion.. good luck.. just dont run it with thinned out oil..

Hey Bob, did I miss some drama on this board lately, you seem to be making some sarcastic comments. But when I read your profile you are saying how in debt to this board you are for all the help. What gives?

Opps. sorry if I came across as sarcastic.. I don't know how to behave in public ;-)...
I just tried to pitch in and answer a "softball" ?... let the big guns get the tough ones!!..
I replace my fuel pump ~2months ago.. good news .. bad news.. now it pumps fine, but the clear filter I put in is got some rust lookin krap in it... ? Rust from the fuel line.. or the "treatment" the PO had done on the gas tank disentigrating.. hummmm
I am very indebt to this board... otherwise I would be walkin.... there ARE better mechanics.. and better welders and body men out there but let me tell you there is no one haveing more fun than ME !!! and the two grandsons in the back seat of "JEEPERS"... was a great summer eh?? have had the top stowed away for 2 months now.. just throw a tarp over if it starts to drizzle..

OH YEA.. check out my PEEPSTER mirrors.. they work great.. got a convex stick on on the passerngers side one..

I'm sorry!
I just noticed the board has been a bit inactive lately and I thought there was another uproar.
