Default RWD Buick 3.8 MPFI Making Noise

It's been quite awhile since I posted to the Jeepster Board. Here are pics of the RWD MPFI Buick 3.8 V6 starting up for the first time. Feel free to ask questions, or send a PM. 1980 even fire Buick 3.8 with a mix of 1987 Buick Grand National and 1985 Buick Park Avenue fuel injection parts. More tuning to follow.

That is one nice looking engine.
I bet the injection will work very well.
One question.
Is the passenger side exhaust manifold an older style dog leg port manifold or did you find a square port single outlet manifold.
The only type I have been able to find are the type that feed the exhaust from the drivers side into the passenger side manifold and then out the rear of the passenger side manifold.

The passenger side exhaust manifold and Y-Pipe is from an early 80's Buick V6 powered Chevy Camaro. I've also been told that some Buick V6 powered Chevy Monza's in the early 80's used the same passenger exhaust manifold and Y-Pipe.

That looks awesome! I'm wanting to inject mine, I have a 2bbl holley projection, plus a complete 2bbl factory injection setup from a 90 Trooper 2.8l. I'm thinking making the 2.8 injection work with the 3.8 would be the easiest.

What I'd really like is to build a 3.8 turbo motor. Try to copy the GN setup. Fuel economy plus power!

Please keep the pics and progress report coming! Awesome engine stand setup, too!

Hi Randy,
I did some homework on Buick 3.8 MPFI systems. The 1985 Buick Park Avenue has some advantages. In 1985 the Buick 3.8 MPFI non-turbo used a distributor, the 1985 turbo Buick 3.8 MPFI used a cam position sensor (very $$$). Starting in 1986 the non-turbo Buick 3.8 MPFI uses both a cam position and crank position sensor, and no longer have a distributor. The 1985 Buick 3.8 MPFI non-turbo system can be upgraded to a turbo by using 1984 - 85 Buick MPFI turbo injectors and Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Check out Dibiase EFI for some additional information on the 1985 non-turbo Buick MPFI.
