I was looking at the busher wacker fender flare -- I've seen iton several pictures on commandos on this site -- which fender flare is it?? -- I see tha Mike used Bushwacker Pocket-style fender flares. These are for a YJ Wrangler -- is this a special order -- what year -- where can I find these flares?????
I used TJ front and rear. I know that TJ style for the rear is best (taller and wider) and YJ or CJ front style flares are better to fit the lines of our Jeepster's. I used TJ front flares but I had to cut them to fit the front (TJ's mount to a flat surface where as Jeepsters have a moulded and rounded fender). I'll try and post some pics.
I bought a set of 7" Warn TJ flares for the Beater. They are also available in 6" width. They are made of a polyurethane material and are a bit more pliable than thermoplastic. Not sure how they compare price-wise to the Bushwackers.
If you want to save a bunch and don't mind thermoplastic, Omix-Ada sells 7" TJ flares for quite a bit less. Another advantage, besides price, is you can order just one later on, should it need to be replaced. I don't know if the other companies sell individually.
If you have a '71 Jeepster, CJ-8 Scrambler flares will work very well, since the front fender has the running light built-in. Omix-Ada has a stock width set of Scrambler flares and Xenon has a 5" front/6.5" rear set.
Here's a site with some pics of a Scrambler with both stock and wide Xenon flares:
I'll see if I can find some time tonight to do that for the front flares. There is a good write up from last week on the TJ rear flare install, it looks basically the same as the way I installed mine.
