I have had my jeepster for 1 week and of course there is work to be done. I have a serious leak from the top of the gas tank....Looks like when it is filled it leaks out of the hole where the sending unit is. There is also a vent type hose that is not attached to anything (about 12" long). It was leaking as well until it was secured in an upright position. I have it in a shop with a lift and we will be pulling the tank to see what the deal is. Any suggestions on where the hose should go or is it correctly installed?
Additionally, there is brake work and the "bell crank" is being replaced in the steering. Overall, a really neat car.
Also, my jeepster is a roadster....Any ideas on the purpose of the roadster as compared to the pickup truck or other types.
The hose is the vent that should be connected to the top of the filler. You'll probably have to do some squirming to see where it goes. As far as the other leak is concerned, mine was leaking from the supply and return lines to the engine compartment. They had been twisted so much they were loose in the mounting. I pulled the and used some high temp solder to keep them inplace and seal it back up. It may need the rubber o-ring replaced under the sending unit.
I just repaired a leak in my tank. The sender for the fuel gauge is a kind of bolt that had come loose. Easy fix, tighted the sender bolt...no problem other than dropping the tank.

I have a related problem. It leaks where the fill neck connects to the tube going to the tank. I did a quick fix with silicon but it is starting to leak again. Can any one tell me if there is something out there for sealing the joint between the two components?
Gasoline is an agressive solvent. Since most RTV and other glues, epoxies, or adhesives are primarily made from petroleum based chemicals gasoline will eat away at them. I found some sticky dark brown stuff that you can get at CarQuest or similar store. I cannot remember the name of the product but it comes in a white bottle a couple inches tall and the applicator is a brush attached to the screw on lid. Somebody help me here??? It has worked great for me so far you just need to give it time to set.
Good Luck!
I asked around what sealer the pro's use. FuelSafe fuel cell manufacturing is close by my work- one of their guys said they use "Hylomar". http://www.valco-cp.com/Hylomar.htm
I used it to seal a sender on my Scrambler tank- it worked like a champ. I don't think the stuff ever fully dries, but gas doesn't get through it either!
Where in TN are you located? You'll wish you skipped the bellcrank repair and upgraded to a saginaw power steering. Search the board as there is lots of helpful posts on the topic. Sweet looking ride!
Thanks for the compliment. I have been looking for a jeepster about 18 months on ebay and they usually went out of my price range. I originally wanted a project but after 3 full size jeep projects I decided I didn't want to do body work anymore. This one came from Cape Cod, MA and it needs very little to be finished. The title says 52,000 original miles. It was professionally restored but they didn't do anything to the engine or drive train. I have it in a shop and the parts to finish it up are arriving tomorrow. I don't think the gas tank had a gasket installed when they did the body work and removed the tank.
I live in Kingsport just off I-81 about 8 miles. I went to Maryville College back in the 60's and I have been through Oltlewah (sorry for the spelling) a few times.
I plan to go to the jam in Mtn. City, so maybe I will see you there.
