Default Front spring bushing, rear spring question

I have replaced the badly deteriorated rear spring shackle bushings, but I need to replace the front spring bushing too. I have the replacement, took the nut off, and beat the living crap out of the bolt with a hammer to no avail. Am I missing something? Should just cut the bolts and replace them with grade 8 hardware?
The rears were a pain to remove, but at least they came out...

After a LIBERAL (multi-day) soaking with PB... I used an impact hammer! BbRRrPPPpp! Did in seconds what I couldn't accomplish with BFH in 3-4 days! Also, common puller does a nice job if'n you have one...

On mine, the bolt had rusted itself to the metal sleeve in the bushing and was not going anywhere. I ended up getting out the grinder and cutting the bolts off to get it out.

I've pressed them out with a HF u-joint press.

I am going to try the air hammer when I get home. I picked up new hardware today and got the materials to build new shackles, so if I have to cut it out, I have the hardware to replace it. I am thinking it has rusted to the sleeve as well and the sleeve won't fit through the hanger.

BTW, Caver, check your Gmail account.

Cut the bolts, drive them out (I modified a 3-jaw puller from Harbor Freight - works great!), cut the outer sleeve with a hack saw blade and drive it out. Wire clean the hole, lube it up, drive in the new bushings, sleeve it and use grade 8 bolts.

I have it down to a science now but it's a pain to do on the vehicle...IMO.

Mine were hopelessly rusted in. I accomplished basically the same thing as Fast Bucks with C-clamps, pipe clamps, etc., and a socket to drive out the bushings. I cut the bolts between the spring and the shackle on several. One bushing came out and left a sleeve pretty much welded in the hole where the bushing rubber had worn all the way to the spring. I used a die grinder with a carbide bit to get it. If you don't give up, you'll get 'em.
Here's a pic of the shackle to give you an idea how far gone they were.

Steve.
