I don't off road and would like to keep the softer ride.. quick corners do exibit a bit of body roll in the rear.. front seems fine.. ? can I .. should I consider adding links to lift the butt up from the spring shackle points?? How much can I go wihtout adverse effects?? can I do 4-6 inches?

Stay away from the shackle lift - bad idea.

You have several options;

Add a leaf - I think pro-comp and trail master make a add-a-leaf for the rear

Take them to a spring shop, you could take your stock mono leafs - assuming that's what you have - and have them add a few leafs to it.

Buy new.

Find a set of multi-leaf rear springs from a Commando.

Also make sure that your body isn't rusted and sagging below the mounts, BTDT.

Whats bad about the shackel lift??? I have them on both of my Commandos,had it on my 48CJ2A,91 Wrangler and on my M416.Never had any issues.Ran the Rubicon multiple times,Dusy/Ershum and many more.I think 4-6 inches is nuts,but 1- 1 1/2 is fine.

1 1/2" lift shackels for a Wrangler will work in the rear.And 1 1/2 XJ (Cherokee) for the front.Thats if you have 2" springs in the front and 2 1/2 in the rear.

Sure, a little is okay - 1 1/2 would be fine, but 4-6 is just crazy.....

GREAT INFO !!! Thanks all for your time, patience and expertise.. much appreciated.....
I think I will look at the 1 to 1 1/2" shackles (existing ones are 3".. Is that stock?) if that does not do the trick I will look at add a leaf or have the existing springs recurved..
I do have some body sag due to rust issues in the rear bed area.. but cant imagine that it would make up the 3-4 inch diff in front and rear clearance that I think I am seeing.. I certainly will get that squared away first prior to screwing around with lifts.. thanks and have a safe holiday... and if your a fellow vet, remember our brothers

3" is most likely stock.In order for a shackle to give you 1 1/2" of lift,it would be 3" taller than stock.So you get half of the total lenth.

I got my add-a-leafs from Rancho I believe. They are cheap and include everying to rebuild your packs except for friction pads.

Actually, with the Jeepter rear springs, your lift would only be about 1/3 the difference in shackle length, because of the fact that the axle is not in the center of the spring. In order to get about 1" of lift, you would have to use shackles 3" longer than stock. This is probably unsafe, and they would really drag on stuff off-road.

I would go with add-a-leafs.
