Default Help with Autometer Fuel Guage

Looking for some help on getting my new Autometer fuel guage to work properly. If anyone has experience, I would greatly appreciate the input.

After hooking up all the wires correctly, I am getting a reading of just below 1/4 of a tank. I just filled up last night, so I know I at least have 3/4 of a tank.

Based on the looks of the tank, I am pretty sure I have the original tank and sending units. Does anyone know if I need to get a different fuel level sender for tank to work with this guage? If so, will Autometer's 3262 fuel sender unit work with the existing tank?

The instructions for the guage states that the ground wire from guage should be grounded to the fuel tank. Is this necessary ground all the way to tank? I did not. I grounded it to the nearest bolt behind dash.

Your help is most appreciated

Make sure that your sender is grounded well. That can cause a bunch of problems. Also, do you know the part number of the fuel guage that you are using. The problem might be the particular guage that you are using with your sending unit. IIRC, the resistance of the stock Jeepster sending unit is 73 ohms empty to 10 ohms full. You need to check what the resistance range is on the gauge you bought. Otherwise, you will have to either return the guage and get a new guage or get the sender that matches the resistance. I've been researching this recently so I can find most of the info you need quickly if you can find it. Good luck.

I belive that the autometer system uses 240 ohms empty and 33 ohms full. I dont know if their sending unit will work on your tank though. They look similar but you might have to call them and get some measurments.
