Default jeepster newsletter/sales/ads/events???

OK I'm going to start a newsletter or magazine of sorts. I want to have as many distributors for jeepster commando parts as possible in it. I want to feature different commandos in it with write ups on the builds and such. I want to have classifieds and wanted ads. I have already found a guy that will help with the publishing, do not have to use him, just really wnat to start getting this great group of people together. I get a couple of people in here a every week asking where can I find this and that for there jeepster. Problem is i just refer them to the jeepster page and usually never here from them until a few months later when their commando is really broke. We have a great network here on the computer but I find it hard to peel my but out from under my customers rigs every 30 minutes to check the web. I was shooting for an monthly issue distributed to all the members. This could really get some people together, face to a name and a jeep you know? I've talked to a ton of you but would not know you from adam on the street! I would like to try and change that.

I have spell checker on my computer just too lazy to use it. I don't necessarily want to be the editor or president or secretary all though treasurer could have its one time advantage
Just joking.
Anybody with interest?
Weve got one that comes to the shop called the bronco roundup. That is pretty cool, just hate reading about other peoples broncos!

Hey, I'll admit I'm a publicity :censored::censored::censored::censored: - my Jeep may not be much to look at compared to some of the others, but I'd be happy to see it in a magazine...

Sounds cool - it's always nice to have a paper reference with addresses, websites, phone #s of suppliers, etc all together...

Sounds great Butch, you must be ambtious to undertake this project, but I and I'm sure others would surely like to benefit from your hard work.
What kind of help do you need to get it going?

Many moons ago, (before we all had PCs!) I was a member of the AMC Rambler Club.(Sorry, I don't mean to keep bringing ramblers into the pot!) They had a pretty good monthly news letter. It had articles, some how to tips, accounts of folks Ramblers, classifieds where individuals could list stuff for sale, and also for vendors. This got a lot of vendors in one spot that was highly visible to all. I was able to find tons of stuff, and all without the internet!! I don't know if anyone wants to take on such a project...but vendor classifieds could make the vendors more visible, as well as help finance the newsrag.

It's an interesting idea!

A quarterly newsletter might be a better range to shoot for and have it online also, to cut back on mailing cost for those who wish to just view it online. (unless you already were planning on doing that?)
More power to you if you can do a monthly one, but finding articles for a monthly newsletter would be a full time job I would think.

I currently write the "Tech Tips" article for a local Jeep newsletter, "Jeep Junction". It's a cool little 2 page quarterly thing with local club happenings, for sale ads, and a little Jeep talk.

It sure would be neat to see a Jeepster Newsletter, along the same lines. A suggestion might be to have the ads cost a small amount to run, covering the cost of the newsletter. The basic articles could be sent out via computer to each of the chapters, with a designated person in each area adding and collecting for local ads, and in turn printing and mailing out the newsletters to their respective area. Of course, we'd all want to see each others ads, probably, that would just take a little more coordinating.

It's be nice to look forward to getting something Jeepster related in the mail every 3 months...

This would be an excellent idea.I don't think it would be hard to fill 10-12 issues a year with lots of good info on Jeepsters/Commandos.It would not have to be a 100 pages, even if it were 20 or 30 would be great.

I have never been a member of an AMC/Rambler club, but have subscribed to American Motoring and it was a great source for AMC info and parts, and it is a small mag,10 issues per year, and 29.00 for a subscription.

There are plenty of people that could submit articles for tech tips, modifications that worked/did not work, buildups, history of various models, history of the co's,Kaiser/Jeep and even Willys. We all have or have had other types of Jeeps,FC's CJ's,so there could even be articles about other Jeeps as well.Feature articles with members rigs and maybe even photos of the owners,so we could all know who we are BS'n with on the BBS.

With a subscription price, venders paying for ads,a classified/wanted section, there should not be a problem paying for publishing a great mag.Heck there may even be a profit in it.The AJC should have had something like this going years ago.Maybe someone should take a poll of how many people would be interested, and what a good subsciption price might be.20 bucks,25 bucks???

And have an add on the BBS for a subscription.I got my subscription to American Motoring off of the AMO website, but I was never a member. So you would have people subscribing, that were not members of the AJC.

sorry, had to deal with some issues over the weekend.
Looks like weve got it rolling.

Could somebody help me with some voting or polls?

question #1 quarterly or monthly
question #2 commando/jeepster only or commando based with "vintage articles etc (vintage = 1986 and older?)
question #3 affiliated and or ran by AJC or by me solely. ( I am not really in this for the money, if we could send a cd with each publication on it to each chapter or a box of printed mags or????)
question #4 How many of you good people on this forum would be interested?

Also for all you vendors on the forum, please email me at carnageoffroad@msn.com and we can start the "how much Iam willing to spend on advertising" dilema.

Last but not least, cost? I guess a poll with question #4 would be the answer.
Thanks for your interest guys and girls
