There were a number of topics discussed at our Saturday meeting last weekend, but I'd like this thread to stay on the topic of leaders for the SWC. Lets try to avoid a lot of discussion so it remains clear who would like fill the open positions.
I've volunteered to be the Chapter's liaison, not really an official position, but simply one which seemed to be of value at this time and I stepped up to it.
I've also volunteered to help with an election, as much as my assistance might be needed and/or useful. I'm not certain at this time when we will have an election. The AJC rules state "Newly elected officers will take office starting January 1st." There is also a rule that states "Elections shall take place the first week of the last fiscal quarter". At this time I don't know what the club's fiscal year is. If our fiscal year mirrors the calendar year, it would follow that an election should take place the first week of October.
BUT... The American Jeester Club (national) by-laws are not currently rock solid...
We (Don, Jim and I) think it'd be OK to have our Chapter elections earlier.
We need members to fill the positions and get our Chapter moving.
The AJC has established five offical positions for chapters.
Coordinator
Treasurer
Events Director
Secretary
Webmaster
Some of the meeting's attendees have expressed interest in some of the postions.
Both Don Fletcher (jeepdog) and Jim Serr (Jeepster Jim) are interested in Coordinator.
Ron Garbez (ronster) has said he'll step up for Treasurer.
Don has also expressed interest in Events Director.
SO...
The Southwestern Chapter needs leadership. If you want to help our Chapter by holding a leadership position (all five positions are available), let me know by posting your interest here, or by emailing me at tomnatch@hotmail.com.
How we will conduct an election will be open for discussion in another thread.
I'll be second in line for the Treasurer job. I hold a B.S. in Business Finance from CSULB and graduated with honors. I ran a stock portfolio with full accounting responsibility for CSULB as well. I am self employed and have no conflicting interests. As many of you know -
I am a family guy, wife, daughter(3.5 yo), and one in the cooker. I have the time to do this and great relations with my banks. Let me know. My name is in the hat.
Tom, since I don't want to appear greedy and I'm sure there are many members who are interested in holding an office, please remove my name from the Events Coordinator ballot. I think my experience would be better suited as the Chapter Coordinator.
I personally think as big as our Chapter is (geographically), we will need several events coordinators for each of the areas where we plan to have our events. Example would be picnic, b-b-que run for the north, central valley run, southern events, something to include our East friends such as Nevada, Arizona, Utah. It's been my experience that having someone in the area as the go-to person makes planning these events a whole lot easier.
Well, I guess I can throw my .02 in. Although I will be thinking in the next couple days as to whether or not I want to run for a SWC position or a National position...or any position for that matter, I think that if our President/Founder is interested in securing the SWC Coordinator position, it should be his. I have been associated with other groups/clubs in the past, and from seeing the issues first hand, I don't think that any member should hold 2 positions...only because of the conflicts those situations can cause. The only position that I can see that could be combined with another position would be the webmaster position. Another issue I have witnessed as a member of a club some time ago, was an issue with having 2 members of the same family with official positions. In that situation, having 2 members of in the same family with official positions gave those officials a bit too much control of the club.
Just something to think about when it comes time for nominating the officials before voting or just using as a " rule of thumb " while positions are open for volunteers.
