Re: Bronco For Sale - OT [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, they DID break it on the run, but Jesse could break almost anything. Wonder if they bothered to fix it? It WAS one of the most expensive builds they did. Definitely worth more than the buy-it-now just in parts. West Coast Differentials shut down production and custom-made the axles . Jesse must be falling on hard times to be selling that stuff.
Maybe AndyM could tell us more, since he was THERE!!!

I don't know what the story is, exactly. They originally intended to auction off all of the vehicles and give the money to charity. A good idea -- but the obvious liability problems kept that from happening. When I was there, most of the builds from past shows were just sitting behind the shop. I don't know that Jesse actually gets to keep any of that stuff. I'm not sure who actually owns the Bronco or why its up for auction.
What I can tell you is that that thing has some serious parts under it. The axles are Dana 60s (from Dynatrac, actually) with Detriots and front and rear steer. It has full hydaulic steering (again front and rear), four wheel discs, etc. Custom Hummer beadlocks and 37s. Atlas transfer case. The whole drivetrain -- other than the transmission -- was all brand new. The motor was pretty sweet (for a Ford) with the Edelbrock injection.
Its actually more well-built than you would think. Steve from Avalanche had all of the suspension specs figured out before we even started working on it. All of the fab work was pretty dang good given the short amount of time we had to do it. The only reason it broke was because Jesse was TRYING to roll it and just floored it up and over a rock. One of the link brackets sheared off and left the axle hanging. Then he tried backing up and it pulled the driveshaft out. Not exactly a big deal. They fixed it and it looks like they cleaned up some of the other loose ends as well. I'm not sure what happened to the front end, though. I don't remember that much damage from the show. They probably took it out again and bashed it up.
Anyway, I don't think I would buy it to use it -- but it would be worth it just for the parts. But if you really wanted to use that thing as a rock crawler, you'd probably need to go through it completely. I think you'd get ridiculed if you drove that thing on the trail -- imagine running into some guy with more money than sense driving that thing on the Rubicon.
