Ive been poking around this board and looking through the espo spring and Turner 4wd sites to figure out what parts go into a total bushing rebuild on my 1970 Jeepster.
One thing I did not know untill today was that there is a difference in the front shock between a Jeepster with ross stering and one with saginaw (spelling??). Anyway, here's the question...
In the future I plan taking the saginaw stering setup from my 'partster' and using in on my Jeepster (witch currently uses the ross stering set up).
If I am going to make the switch, do I need to go ahead and switch out the front springs as well? The springs on the ross set up are apx 1" 3/4 wide while the springs on the saginaw setup are 2" wide. They also have different front shackles. In other words, should you run the smaller springs with the saginaw set up, or will I have to switch out the springs for wider ones when I do the stering conversion? Are there any major advantages to the wider springs? What are your thoughts? If I am going to replace the bushings in the front, I want to buy the right ones for the right springs!

doing a complete conversion, steering and springs, at the same time would be advisible. the wider springs are more stable than the narrow ones. the shocks are different becouse the wider springs use different spring plates, and the shock mounts are on the opposite end of the axle. thus you will have to move the upper or lower mount to compensate. replacing the u-bolts with new ones, especially in the front, is also advisable when switching springs.
