Default Topic: heating problem and other stuff.....(long)

Well, it worked, I replaced the thermostat and gasket, dumped a tube of the anti leak stuff in the radiator, installed the fan guard, changed the oil filter and oil (which will be changed again today and then STP included this time). I drove the h/c around the area for about 30 minutes and the temp stayed between 195-205 whether I was sittin' at a stop light or moving down the road.
Now, here's alot problem I found while doing this project: When I first started up the engine, the oil pressure gauge (cheap under the dash mount) read 45-50 lbs but after it warmed up I got a reading while moving of around 22 lbs and at idle 2-3 lbs. Could the oil pump be shot or could it be the cheap gauge or the oil sending unit? I don't hear any lifter noise so it must be getting a supply of oil to the lifters. Is there a oil sending unit available at the parts store? If so, anyone have a part number?
On another note, it's interesting to have two different years of Jeepsters, even more so if it's a pre-71 and a 71. Either someone has modified my 1971 or the back of the headlight housing is completely different than my 1970. The 70 has a build in casing (metal) around the back of the headlights but my 71 doesn't, it's open with a style like you'd see if you wanted to just change the light bulb instead of the enclosed headlight bulb. My 70 also has the big blinker lights which I thought was only available on 71's and up. And when I was under the vehicle I noticed that the clutch cable was a full cable with no solid rod attached like my 71 has. Also, the 70 has the side markers on the fenders which again, I thought was only 71 design. Now I should state when my 70 was build, which was Feb. of 70 making it an early model from that year's line.
Oh wait til you see my wench on the front of my 70! It's a classic all by itself......a Sear's model.......if you get your lawn chair stuck in the sand at the beach....just give me a call.....my wench SHOULD be able to pull it out! (photo coming soon)

Jeff you might want to try some Water Wetter(PepBoys), it may help the engine run a little cooler. I added some Lucas Oil Stabilizer, it helped bring the press. up some. Check the line going to the gauge, if plastic replace it with a hard(copper?)line. I think my oil pump may need replacing as my press reads @10 lbs. at idle. They say the oil pump on the 225-231's is a fairly easy job! I think they started putting the larger turn signal and front fender side lights in 70. The tag on my Jeepster reads April 1, 1971. My stock clutch has a totally solid rod linkage. When replacing the linkage I ordered the parts for a 1972 model??? (Yes, all new linkage was available at Jim's Off Road in Clinton, Tn.) Have you taken the top off yet ?

Jerry, I'm kinda puttin' that idea on the back burner (taking the top off) Currently I don't have a soft top so I don't want to get caught in the rain. I'm kickin' around the idea of a soft top halfcab setup, so I can keep the pickup look at yet drop the top when I want to.
I'm heading out right now to take a few photos of the H/C and the clips for the tailgate and will be posting them this evening. Tomorrow I'll have to give her a bath and polish her up and find a good spot for a nice photo of her to submit.
Oh, before I forget Jerry, I am currently working on a web site for Half cab Jeepsters and hummm Commandos. What I'm working on is to have a listing of all Half Cabs that are still alive whether they're running or not. I'm asking for no more than 5 photos for each person's halfcab and information about them, such asroduction date and year, engine size, tranny info, list of options, etc... Before it goes public I'll be sending a link to everyone who submitted a vehicle so they can proof the pages for correctness/added suggestions.
Since the numbers are much lower than the standard full cab, I thought it would be nice to see how many halfcabs we can locate and have a list so people can register theirs. I'm thinking we'd be lucky if 50% of the Half Cabs are still around.
If you or anyone else (Toad) has a Halfcab and would like to register it, please send information and photos to: webmaster@americanlizards.com please title the email Half Cab information.
Thanks

Mine is a 71 SC-1 model(wagon), I also am going to fix up a 72 wagon. I currently just run a bikini top. I'll be working on a half cab soft top with a tonneau for the rear.

My Jeepster was originally a half cab but I removed and sold the top. Then, I restored the Jeepster and a S/W top and installed it for a short while then removed it.
My title still says "Pickup".
Does it count?

Jerry, I think I got you mixed up with the other Jerry who has a yellow half cab.

GRQster: That's still fine, even if it doesn't have the top. The main focus is to list all the Vin# of alive H/C's. I will still want photos and information on yours too.

Well, gotta let the other half use the computer for 30 minutes then I'll load the photos of the clip and my new H/C.
