Default Stock Gears, I\'m confused, again.

Finally got around to changing oil in differentials. I always assumed I had 373's but when I was cleaning the metal tags, they were marked 4.27. Now the book says 3.73's stock and 4.88's as an option, with 4.27's only used on the Hurricane engine. I see no evidence that the frame engine mount posts were ever moved and believe this is a stock jeepster with V6. So my questions are:
#1...Why do I have 4.27's, anyone else have them stock.( for that matter, in all the posts I have read, does anyone drive a stock Hurricane engine)
#2...Not everyday, but I sometimes drive to work 20 miles of freeway each way. Usually driving at 3500 rpm with 31 inch tires (70 - 75 mph). Am I going to burn up 4.27's at that speed?
#3...If I ever decide to put in lockers, am I going to "chrip" the tires on even easy turns on the street?

Jim, if you read this, did you get my registration for Reno, the check hasen't cleared yet.

Thanks All!

Just do what the engineers and builders of Jeepsters and Commandos did way back when, throw to book out the door!
I've had a Jeepster with V-6 with 4:27's before and have never seen one with a set of 4:88's.
3500 rpm's.... I'd be more worried about my motor than the gears.
Yes a locker will chirp your tires on pavement on sharp turns or when you accelerate in turns.

I got some good advice on this topic last week and I will pass it on. The tag may or may not be right. To be sure you have to count the teeth or do the rotation count to be sure. Just a thought.

I checked the gears and they are stamped 47-11. (4.27) I had the same thought.

Yep, stock 4.27's with the factory V6. 1968 Jeepster bought from the original owner with only 36k miles when I got it.
