| | 4.2 L V6 vs 225 V6 need info
Does the bolt patterns match on the block of these two engines? The 4.2 L is from a 89 Jeep and I was wondering if I could swap out attachments P/S unit and all the other pulleys, etc... or are they completely different designs and nothing will bolt up right? I know the 89 has a different type of belt system which is the serpentine style.
Other note: I'll be testing my engine this morning as soon as it's light out. I'm installing the shroud from my other H/C so as to help with clean air pull from the fan. I was also told the following hint from a race car driver (not that I'm going to do this) but he said if you install a fender washer with a 1/2" hole into the radiator hose and take the thermostat out, that the system will run at 190 degrees all day long. Apparently, they do this to their race cars. Has anyone ever heard of this?

The 4.2L is the same 258 c.i. I-6 that some of the '72-'73 Commandos have. Nothing in common with the 225 c.i. V-6.

The washer trick restricts flow. Running without a thermostat (an open passage) sometimes has the water moving so fast it does not have adequate cool-down time in the radiator and pick-up-heat time in the engine.

That may work in his race car, but the guy next to him has to run 3/4", and the guy in front runs 5/16,
and ---.
He's must only be running at tracks where the temperature's always the same, and always flat out.
You'll have various loads, temperatures and conditions, so you'll need something that can accomodate all of them, called a thermostat. |

the 4.2 is a lot longer than the 225, would need different motormounts, (werent the input shafts differnet for the different engines -the T-14 vs T-14A thing) and a radiator. didnt Bullnoses come with 258s? but Jeepsters i thought only had V6s.... granted I dont know much about the Jeppster/Commandos

And I'm sure Toad would sale you a REAL frontclip to fit that 258 under, but I'm afraid you may have hurt his feelings talking all that Peepster smack!

Dave,
No inline 6's for my Jeepster, but I would be interested in a V8 less the frontend clip! I found a complete working A/C unit out of the CJ that I was interested in installing on my Jeepster, that's why I was asking about bolt patterns.

Better leave that A/C setup for an AMC engine and look for a Buick (possibly a Camaro) donor. That way you won't have to "fab" any mounts and everything should line up fine.

There are 2 or 3 304 v8's on Ebay right now. One has a bid of $10. Wait, why am I telling you, I need an engine for mine and it will bolt in. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. What to do.
I already have too many parts for the 258 to scrap it,and I've always wanted to be just like Drayson, God, all the choices...
