Default Front Axle Ujoint Replacement question

Well Luckily i tried to do the disc brake conversion. I pulled everything apart and my drivers side axle ujoint just about gave it up. I found a bunch of needle bearings in the bottom of the knuckle. Luckily i got to it now, rather than on the trail. So now I have to change out the ujoints in the axles. Do I need a press for this, or can i do it in a vise with a socket and hammer. I have done drive shafts ujoints a bunch of times, but this ia a first for me. I already have the clips out and i have already whacked the joint cap, but it didnt budge.

Thanks\

Yep, socket and hammer, put the yoke in a vise and whack away. Use one of those metric sockets you never use, 19MM?

Thanks guys,
I will smack in the oinnts today. Now i have an even bigger prohect to do. Also in my knuckle i noticed a wobble in the knuckle itself, so i pulled the king pins and voila... the bottom driver side was destroyed. So now i need to try and find some of those bearings today, and already one ring to a store prodyced nothing. SO i may have to order these bearings. I am going to change out all of them because whule i am at it i will do it. And since i am this far and have the knucles off i think i will put the stud kits in. The studs were from a dana 30 right?

Thanks

Mike,
Sorry.. totally flaked. I will send out that beer fund tomorrow for you. Does that axle have locking hubs on it? I froze up one of mine and I am searching for new ones.
Thanks again.. it will be in the postal office's hands tomorrow.

Thanks

I am surprised with the Ujoint size for the Dana 27 front axle. I thought the joint would be a lot smaller than the dana 30. I am not so fearful of the joint snapping, given it isnt the beef of a 44 or 60, but the 27 is just fine for me
