Default steering box mounting

Am converting to manual sag(sp) steering from Ross on a 69 Jeepster. How far back from front of frame to I mount the box. There are no holes predrilled for the sag box. If I put it directly over tie rods etc. I will need to move front driver metal brake lines. Need advise. Help.

Get the steering box, put the pitman arm and rag joint on it and hold it up there. It will show you where it needs to be. One thing to consider is that the saginaw box has an offset center. In other words, when the steering wheel is centered, the pitman arm is not parallel to the center line of the steering box. If you look straight down at the top of most saginaw conversions you can see that the saginaw box is about 1/4 inch closer to the frame in the back than the front. This is hard to explaine....can anybody else do better? I'd take some pics but my Jeepster is in storage right now, I just moved and the garage is full of crap.

Sid I sent you a PM, But yes get all the pieces of the puzzle first then hold the box to the frame, You will see in relation to the steering arm where the box needs to be mounted. Also you said "no holes are predrilled" well get ready to start fabricating some brackets and other stuff.
Dbricco has a wonderful illustration of what he did to his and I followed his lead. I have pictures and such I think I posted on the board, may want to do a search or I can send them to your e-mail. In any case check out Darrens web page www.jeepster.org read it and along with my pictures hopefully we can help guide you through it.
BTW thanks Darren mine worked out great.
