Jeepster-American Jeepster ClubThis board is maintained by the American Jeepster Club to support all discussions of Jeepster Commandos and Commando models of Jeeps. Please visit our club web site for more information at www.off-road.com/jeepster
I'd give at least a long weekend of work on it. I could take Friday off from work and be able to work Friday, Saturday and maybe awhile on Sunday on this project. Maybe we could have a year long raffle for club members and donate what we make to the Eastern Club. The club could use it for yearly insurance, expenses for newsletters, food for the Jam event, flyers for the event, etc....
If this gets off the ground I'd definitely want to be a part of it so I can learn what to do if I decide to drop a 304 or 401 into a Jeepster later on.
Just let me know,
Lizard Man
great idea, but I don't think he will go for it. I tried to talk him out of the jeep last night........no luck.
But I still have mine up for this project. Plus a auto tranny
Auto trannie?? If it's a TH400 w/transfer case adapter I maybe interested in it. I"m gettin' old....and no longer like to operate my left foot while driving or is it......she'd like to sit next to me but the shifter's in the way?!!!
Let me see if I can locate a Jeepster for this project. I've been thinking about it....instead of raffling it off, why don't we sell it on ebay then after paying any $$'s racked up from building it, donate the rest to the club. Instead of having it at Toad's place all the time, I came up with an idea.....if we grouped members who live close by each other and rotated the project between the groups. Let's say one group has more knowledge and resources for a SOA than the other groups, then they should be scheduled to do the SOA on the project. And if a group is good at body work, then schedule them to do the body work and so on. We could also see if any vendors would like to donate items to the project, which in turn we could setup a webpage that has the project and a listing of sponsors (ads). We could make it a one year project to end at the next Jam with everyone involved having their picture taken with it.
Hey it's just an idea......anyone else have any input???
Lizard Man
yeah it is a TH400, but I wanted it in my rig, that is why I was willing to let mine be a project.
BUT I do like your idea. I am going to start another post to see what we can get. I have a few things I would love to get rid of.
I'm the guy who won (?) the auction for this jeepster. It's my first and I'm a newbie to the board. I took the train up to Seattle on Friday and drove it back to the Portland area. I beleive it to be a legit '73. The frame doesn't appear altered and the engine install looks factory. The PO didn't have any history as to how the OTHER nose got insatlled. (I like them both actually- I'm not going to open that can of worms on my first post!) This board has been a great resource to me while I was preparing to get my first jeepster.
Thanks!
The inside of the front grill on a Jeepster has a deck area approximately 10" long where the radiator bolts onto it. In those pics you can see where that section was cut out to fit it onto the 73 frame with the 304. Thats a sweet way of doing it. You can tell someone else has good taste for the "true" Jeepster front end. Before the bullnose flames start, that just came from someone who hacked 12" off the back of his 71 to make it look like a cj.
Bob,
Congrats on the purchase of the "Bullster?" The NW Chapter will be happy to have another member to their group!
Also, as far as what it is, chances are only maybe the frame and driveline is 72-73 the rest of the vehicle is pre-71. There's no side markers and the tail gate is definitely pre-72.
It would be interesting to know if they just dropped a complete pre-72 on a 72-73 frame/driveline or dropped the 304 in the pre-72 unit and changed the title to read the newer vehicle.
Best wishes,
Lizard Man
