O/T How do I remove carpet glue from my car?

I've removed the carpeting from my VW Rabbit and want to remove the glue from the floor. I've tried Goof Off, paint stripper, brake cleaner, heat, everything I can think of. Anyone had any luck removing this stuff? I was thinking aircraft stripper might work. At least the Jeep didn't have this crap in it!

Acetone? Paint Thinner? Spirit of Ceddar?

With the carpet removed can you really fit 33's under your JEEP?

I just tried Acetone. It only works when there is just the glue residue left. It won't cut through the glue.

Two Steps:

1: Prepare Scissors,
2: Cut Carpet.

Good luck buddy, from my expierience that stuff is hell to remove!

I would try Xylene first. Air craft stripper will certainly do it, but will also take off any paint down to the metal.

Re: O/T How do I remove carpet glue from my car?

When I ripped the carpet out of my CJ, I tried enough stuff to start chemical warfare. None of it worked. My 4.5" grinder with a sanding disc did though.

Re: O/T How do I remove carpet glue from my car?

I found that using a putty knife and a small blow torch to heat it worked well to scrape most of the glue off. I can then use acetone or whatever to clean the residue. The plan is to paint the interior with Herculiner. Thanks for the ideas.
