Default Speedometer hookup question again

Please help, I'm tired of driving without a working speedometer.
I swapped-out the NP-207 t-case in my 87 YJ and replaced it with an NP-231 out of a 99 TJ. The problem is with the speedometer gear. The 99 t-case has an electronic sensor where the speedometer cable & gear would normally go in. I removed the sensor, but the old cable/gear setup would not fit.
What are my options here? Is there a way to convert it over to the mechanical type so the speedo. cable will install or will the TJ electronic speedometer fit into the YJ instrument panel? What kind of hookup did the NP-231 have in model years prior to the electronic speedo.?(maybe I could find a speedometer cable w/ gear from one and replace my existing cable)
