CJ soft top hardware

Will the top hardware off of a '76CJ work on a '88YJ?

How did I get sand THERE!

If it is a belt rail system, then yes. I have a YJ supertop on my CJ7. The 76-80 doors are different latches than the 81-86 CJ7 and YJ. You might be able to remove the strikers from the tub and use a 76-80 striker plate. My preference would be to get 81+ doors though.

What Will said... The Bestop replacement is the same for CJ and YJ...

I have some extra parts if anyone needs something. Not the bows they were just as toast as the canvas top (too many trees).

Hate to be contradictory here, but;
This is what my CJ7 top frame looked like;

This is what the one I bought to convert to the later YJ top style looks like;

If yours looks like the upper image, itís not at all compatible with the YJ top particularly around the door openings.

The CJ top hardware will work on a YJ if the CJ top is also used, right? That's the way I understood his question.

So how you been, Taz?

I didnít take it that way at all since he only asked about the hardware.

The YJ top with full hardware, half doors and door uppers worked on my CJ, I ASSUME the reverse is true but it would take the full hardware including the plastic on the back of the windshield, the windshield channel (or modifications to the YJ channel), footman loops and snaps (require drilling). Then I think there would be a problem with the door fit.

As Will said... If it is a belt system, in other words a Bestop Supertop they are the same.

Stock parts will be much harder to mix and CJ and YJ.

But Jim has one of maybe a few dozen CJ stock tops that have yet to turn to dust.

Thanks for the replies,
yup, trying to use old hardware and get a new top,sounds like a crap shoot.
Probably go with a new complete top.I don't have doors for the YJ and the CJ doors fit (into the hinge pockets at least) but can't find skins for the full cloth doors:[
By the way I had to put the original manifolds back on when switching the engine into the YJ, so I have a clifford 4BBL intake w/Weber carb and a set of hedman headers for a 4.2.

How did I get sand THERE!

I might be interested in the leftover parts. I particularly want to replace the Carter YF with an MC 2100, but a Weber would be OK too. How's it run?
