OLD SCHOOL 4X4 is on a distinguished road
Post 1957 willys cj-5 cheap truck challenge

I bought a CJ-5 for $800 and me and my cousins are doing a cheap truck challenge against each other, the goal is to buy a truck for 2G's or less and upgrade it for another 2G's.

I swapped in a 302 that I got for free, put in Detroit locker at both ends, and I got some 35X12.50-15LT Maxxis creepy crawlers on some Interco bird dog bead lock rims. I got a good deal on all the parts, it came out at $3100.

Have any of you guys done a cheap truck challenge?

Have never done one, but have heard of it, and two buddies did a cheap car challenge a bunch of years ago. It was a '49 Plymouth and a '53 Chevy. The results are long gone from my feeble brain, but I do recall there were eventually tow trucks involved.

That sounds like a great buy you got. What does it take to get those tires under the fenders? And what are the criteria for determining the winner? You're both going to be winners because you'll sure have a lot of fun!

We're going to go to Moab to test everything out.

Cool! Do you know when is that going to happen? We were in Moab in September, 2012 and would like to go back some time. We missed a lot.

The Bash will probably be in late May, so we might be able to get west around then. Anyone else interested in a Moab trip?
